About Me
Hi, I'm Maryam! Welcome to my page :) You can find my CV here. You can also find me here: linkedin, substack and twitter. [Page updated on 7th June 2023]
I completed my master's in Psychological Research at the University of Edinburgh in November 2022, where I examined the usefulness of framing in moral circle expansion for my dissertation (summary here).
Recently, I have been working on two projects: I am leading research at the Muslim Impact Lab (a small group of Muslim EA researchers) and contributing to two studies on credit-blame asymmetry in AI with the authors of this paper. I also have a strong interest in the psychology of Moral Concern, which I write about on my substack; I try to update this at least once every three months.
Since September 2022, I've been copyediting Psychology research; so far I have edited over 150 manuscripts. Most of my clients have English as a second language and I believe my editing contributes to reducing some of the barriers in science. This role has also peaked my interest in science communication. Here are some comments I have received from clients recently:
"Dear Maryame, I want to appreciate your great job and careful re-editing of my manuscript. Your comments are very precious and helpful to me. Thank you very much."
"Thank you for editing my manuscript. Your edits have significantly improved its quality. I was unaware of some recent changes in APA style, which your edits brought to my attention. I appreciate your help and look forward to working with you again soon."
"The advice given in the comments section was very helpful and a good learning experience. I was very grateful for your proofreading to ensure that the length of the English text was appropriate for the margins of the figures. We hope to have the opportunity to work with you again!"Outside of my work and research interests, I'm really fond of museums and art galleries, I like to read (especially gothic fiction), and I like making carefully curated playlists. I also collect interesting graffiti from my travels (and post these on my blog when I get time) - you can find these in the Gallery tab!
